How Our Store Buys Cards & Prices Collections
Thank you for considering selling your cards or collection to Dwarf & Doom. We want the process to be transparent, fair, and easy to understand. This guide explains how we evaluate cards, how pricing works, and what factors influence our buy offers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do You Buy In Sealed Product?
No. We do not buy in sealed product.
All our sealed product is directly sourced from business to business distributors and importers.
What card games are you currently purchasing?
• Magic: The Gathering
• Pokémon Trading Card Game
In the future we may expand to Lorcana, Riftbound, and Star Wars: Unlimited.
How does the store decide what cards to buy?
We purchase cards based on several factors:
• Current market demand
• Tournament playability
• Collector interest
• Condition of the cards
• Current inventory levels
• How quickly the cards are expected to sell
• Popularity within the local community
Typically we base our pricing off TCGPlayer.
How much do you pay for cards?
Most cards are purchased at a percentage of their current market value.
• Store Credit: 60%
• Cash: 50%
Why doesn’t the store pay full market value?
Local game stores take on several costs and risks when purchasing cards:
• Inventory may take time to sell
• Prices can change quickly
• Cards require sorting, grading, and processing
The store must cover operating expenses such as rent, payroll, utilities, and event support. Buying below market value allows the store to stay sustainable while continuing to support the local gaming community.
Does condition affect pricing?
Yes. Condition has a major impact on value.
Common grading categories include:
Near Mint (NM): Minimal or no visible wear
Lightly Played (LP): Minor edge or surface wear
Moderately Played (MP): Noticeable wear but still playable
Heavily Played (HP): Significant wear or damage
Damaged (D): Tears, bends, water damage, or major defects.
Cards with scratches, whitening, bends, creases, ink, or water damage will receive lower offers.
Do you buy bulk cards?
Typically, no.
Please contact the store before bringing in extremely large collections of unsorted bulk cards.
How long does the process take?
Smaller trades or card sales can often be completed within minutes.
Larger collections may require:
• Sorting
• Condition review
• Individual pricing
Inventory checks
For very large collections, we may ask customers to leave items for evaluation and return later.
What should I do before bringing cards to the store?
Helpful preparation steps include:
• Remove obvious damaged cards if possible
• Remove Sleeves
• Separate high-value cards
Organize collections neatly
This helps speed up the evaluation process.
